What is Western University’s degree work?

Western’s web-based academic planning and degree evaluation tool is called Degree Works. Degree Works will help you track degree progress, prepare for future courses, and plan your path to graduation. More information about Degree Works can be found on the Registrar’s Office website .


What is a TER evaluation?

Your TER and Degree Evaluation are based on the course work that is on file at the time you confirmed your enrollment. To ensure consideration of your complete academic history, you are advised to bring unofficial copies of all transcripts to your Advising & Registration program and whenever you meet with departmental advisors.


What is an AS-T degree?

If you earn an Associate in Science – Transfer (AS-T) degree from a Washington state community college, you will have additional General University Requirements (GUR) to complete at Western. Students who are completing an AS-T degree are encouraged to review our transfer credit policies as multiple options for completing GUR are available.

Therefore, you are encouraged to run a Degree Evaluation for GUR to determine which GUR you have left to complete. If you are close to earning your DTA-AA degree, we encourage you to seek advising in the event it is advantageous for you to complete your DTA degree rather than Western GUR. This is possible, but there are limitations. The TER provides information about the number of credits that have been accepted in transfer and details the courses that transfer to Western as well as their Western course equivalent.


What is transfer course equivalency guide?

Prospective students may use the Transfer Course Equivalency Guide to understand how courses taken at other colleges and universities will transfer to Western. Students who confirm their intent to enroll at Western will receive a transfer credit evaluation prior to course registration.


How many credits are required for Western Washington University?

A minimum of 45 credits must be earned through Western Washington University courses.


How many credits can a veteran receive for military service?

Veterans may receive up to 30 credits for military service as recommended by the American Council of Education (ACE) Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services and in accordance with University and State policies regarding transfer credits. Students may request evaluation of military credit by submitting the Joint Service Transcript (JST) to the Registrar’s Office. The JST replaces the Coast Guard Institute Transcript, Army ACE Registry Transcript (AARTS), and the Sailor/Marine ACE Registry Transcript (SMART). Air Force personnel may submit the Community College of the Air Force transcript.


What is transfer credit?

Transfer credit is generally awarded for baccalaureate-oriented courses completed at nationally recognized institutions of higher education. The University reserves the right to deny credit for courses that are not compatible with those offered in its baccalaureate degree programs. College courses numbered below 100, technical and vocational courses, developmental education or remedial courses, English as a Second Language, sectarian religion courses, credit for life experience/travel, study skills courses, CLEP examination credit, and DANTES credit by examination do not transfer, regardless of an institution’s accreditation.


What is an AS-T degree?

While DTA degrees automatically fulfill Western’s General University Requirements (GUR), AS-T degrees are designed to ensure students have appropriate math and science prerequisites for their intended major. While your AS-T degree includes many GUR, you will have additional GUR to complete to meet graduation requirements at Western.


What is a DTA in Washington State?

Transfer students who earn an Associate in Arts or Associate in Arts and Sciences degree from a Washington state community college that meets the Intercollege Relations Commission guidelines for the Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA) are granted junior standing and will have fulfilled Western’s General University Requirements (GUR) provided they


Does transfer work affect Western Washington University?

Specific letter grades do not transfer and transfer work does not affect the official Western Washington University institutional grade point average.


When is WASFA due?

Your FAFSA or WASFA must be submitted by January 31 (Western’s priority filing date) to be considered for the most favorable financial aid. Washington state residents ineligible to complete the FAFSA due to immigration status may apply for state financial aid by completing the WASFA.


What to do if you don’t intend to come to Western?

If you do not intend to come to Western, please decline your offer so your enrollment space can be considered for another student.

Is enrollment contingent on academic success?

Enrollment is contingent upon your continued academic success, including completion of any conditions specified in your offer of admission, satisfactory completion of all attempted coursework not currently on file, and receipt of official final transcripts.


Apply for 2022

Spring priority deadline has passed, but late applications are still being accepted. Late applications will be reviewed after complete, on-time applications have been processed. Summer and Fall quarter applications are open.


Transfer Students

Western welcomes transfer students from all types of colleges and universities. You are a transfer student if you attempted college credit after graduating from high school or after earning your GED.
