Can I transfer credits to Stony Brook?

Students may transfer credits to satisfy the D.E.C. category A or SBC learning objective WRT only with approved courses completed prior to matriculation at Stony Brook. Course work taken at institutions other than Stony Brook after matriculation will not transfer as WRT 102.

Can I take concentrated courses at Stony Brook?

Some courses are offered in concentrated form during the semester, intersession and summer session. Although some courses are offered for student convenience in Manhattan, be advised that in order to complete the program, all students are required to take one course at the Stony Brook campus. HWC 596 and HWC 597 complete this residency requirement.

How many credits do you need for Computer Science at Stony Brook?

At least 24 credits from items REQUIRED INTRODUCTORY COURSES to COMPUTER SCIENCE ELECTIVES below, and at least 18 credits from items REQUIRED ADVANCED COURSES and COMPUTER SCIENCE ELECTIVES, must be completed at Stony Brook. Completion of the major requires approximately 80 credits.

Do courses taken outside of Stony Brook transfer to WRT 102?

What is CSE 300?

CSE 300 Technical Communications#N#All degree candidates must demonstrate technical writing skills at a level that would be acceptable in an industrial setting. To satisfy the requirement, students must pass CSE 300, a course that requires the completion of various writing assign­ments, including at least one significant technical paper.


Can I substitute ESE 441 for CSE 416?

Note: All students are encouraged to discuss their program with an undergraduate advisor. In Requirement 2 above, CSE/ESE double majors may substitute ESE 440, ESE 441 Electrical Engineering Design I, II for CSE 416 Software Engineering provided that the design project contains a significant software component. Approval of the Department of Computer Science is required.


What are electives in social work?

In the first year, the array of courses and field education provides the basic professional foundation of knowledge, values and skills for social work practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities.


How many credits do you need to take field education?

This option is designed for students who choose not to follow the regular full-time schedule. Students must take a minimum of two courses per semester (6 credits) but may take up to three courses per semester (9 credits). Part-Time students begin Field Education during the Fall semester of their second year.


What are the exceptions to the Generalist Foundation year?

The ONLY exceptions are Program Evaluation and Proposal Writing which students are eligible to enroll in after successful completion of (HWC 511) Research 1 and (HWC 513) Research 2.


Where to send unofficial transcripts to stonybrook?

Applicants must email the School of Social Welfare Admissions Office at ssw_admissions@stonybrook.edu with all unofficial transcripts for any college credit earned (including college courses taken while in high school). Applicants must submit their most recent unofficial transcript that shows courses in progress and/or courses registered for to take in the upcoming semester for a pre-application worksheet review along with any other previously attended colleges/University unofficial transcripts.


Where to download Advanced Standing Practicum Evaluation Form?

Applicants must download the Advanced Standing Practicum Evaluation Form located on the essay section of the application and provide it to their Field Supervisor to submit. The Field Supervisor must email the form to ssw_admissions@stonybrook.edu or mail it to the below address. Forms submitted by the applicant will not be considered for application review and may delay admissions review.


How many letters of recommendation are required for advanced standing?

Advanced Standing Applicants must submit three letters of recommendations. At least (1) recommendation letter is required from their BSW Program Director or Field Supervisor for submission.


Do unofficial transcripts show the name of the college?
