What’s the problem? The two oils do not mix completely and cannot create a long-lasting homogenous mixture, which is needed to ensure the correct lubrication of the mechanical parts within the compressor.

What happens if you mix PAG oil and mineral oil?

They should not be mixed with mineral oils. The result is a gelatinous, gooey mess. Although they are excellent lubricants, they can pose a logistic problem in plants. They can also have some negative effects on paints and seals, and are very expensive.

Does it matter what PAG oil to use?

Not anymore. The PAG oil needed for a particular system is determined solely by the compressor manufacturer. Denso, for example, makes compressors for a variety of automobile manufacturers so it is entirely possible to have the same PAG requirements for different makes of cars.

What type of PAG oil should I use?

➔ PAG oils are highly miscible with R134a (PAG oils 46 YF and 100 YF also with R1234yf) and are suitable for lubricating the air conditioning systems of most passenger and commercial vehicles. ➔ The choice of the right viscosity is crucial when using PAG oils (PAG 46, PAG 100, PAG 150).

What type of oil is used with 134a?

“ND oil 8 or equivalent” is… what? (POE, PAG 100, PAG 46?)

Yep, got the template (thank you Techmid). My concern is the oil compatibility with what’s currently in the system. So, if ND8 is PAG 46 as BMR states, this means that Toyota swapped my R-12 to R134a, did not remove any old mineral oil (unless I removed it by vac. system for 3 hrs.

How much oil does Denso use?

If I remember correctly, Denso ships their compressors with a full system oil charge of 7.6 ozs. Having excess oil in the system will degrade its performance.

How much oil does a compressor hold?

Some of my research online indicates that the compressor holds about 50% of the oil of the entire system so I’m tempted to follow the FSM and add the amounts of oil listed above directly to the components that I’m replacing and call it good for a total system amount of around 180cc.

How many cc is a 10PA compressor?

However, the following link indicates that the total system capacity for AC systems with a nippondenso 10PA compressor is 8 fl. oz (~236.6 cc), about 60cc less than the 180cc I was thinking about adding.

What is POE oil?

POE (polyol ester) oil is usually specified for hybrid cars that have electrically-driven A/C compressors because it is non-conductive. Using the wrong oil may allow current to short circuit back through the A/C compressor, creating a shock hazard.

What About Universal A/C Compressor Oils?

Our advice is this: Why take a chance using a universal oil when you can just as easily use the correct PAG oil?

What type of oil is needed for a 2013 Cadillac XTS?

Newer vehicles with R-1234yf A/C systems require a special 1234yf compressor oil specified by the vehicle manufacturer. General Motors recommends GM lubricants only (PAG-PSD1 #19260643 for 2013/14 Cadillac XTS, and PAG-ND12 #19299051 for 2013 Cadillac ATS). Universal compressor oils should NOT be used in R-1234yf applications.

Why do people use universal oils?

The reason why some people promote universal oils is because it is simplier for auto parts stores and shops to stock a single type of oil instead of a number of different oils.

Can I use mineral oil in R-12 compressor?

Mineral oi l should only be used in older R-12 A/C compressors because R-12 will not mix with R-134 refrigerant. “Universal” A/C compressor oils are often PAO-based and are not the same viscosity as the PAG oil recommended for a specific type of compressor.

Is Suniso SL32 oil good?

Definitely, Suniso SL32 is a big no no, in my own opinion. You would be using a lubricant oil not designed for your compressor. One with a different viscosity grade and a different chemistry.

Does ND-8 oil work with R134A?

Based on this chart, it looks like the oil should work with piston compressors designed for R134a, but … … According to Denso, ND-8 is equivalent to PAG 46, which would suggest that the viscosity isn’t what it should be: oil ac air-compressor.
