What does Evinrude XD100 oil smell like?

I don`t know what additives are in the Evinrude XD100 oil. The oil smells like ammonia. very thin in viscosity. I had an Etec 115 it`s a great motor. I don`t think Id use anything but what BRP recomends. It`s a dealer only item where I live. That was a pain. I kept my engine at the factory 50:1 setting and paid the price for XD100. New the motor drank oil after the first 20 hours it was good. Since I sold the boat I bought a smaller used boat with a 50 Mercury four stroke. have yet to try it out. The Evinrude Etec was a great experience for me. I`d buy another Etec again. Too bad the XD100 isn`t on more shelves.

Can you use E-Tec oil on XD100?

BTW, if your motor is an E-Tec there is no substitute oil for XD100 that anyone will guarantee won’t fry your powerhead and there’s no practical reason to consider a change. And if it’s XD100 you’re using, you’re getting hosed at $42 a gallon. Try here:

Does XD100 oil have 100:1?

No! XD100 doesn’t stand for 100:1 at all. The oiling varies considerably by RPM. If all you did was troll, you would get greater than 100:1. The reality is, for most people, E-Tecs get between 85:1 and 90:1.

Does Evinrude E-TEC have a reduced oil setting?

The Evinrude E-TEC does have an optional “reduced oil setting” that is programmed into the computer by the dealer, at the customer’s request. It requires the use of Evinrude’s XD-100 oil only, not substitutes.

What is the difference between XD 100 and XD 50?

XD 100 is a 100:1 ratio vs. XD 50 50:1 ratio. The XD 100 is not even close to twice the price of the XD 50, therefore it makes no sense to change. Also, they are correct about there being no substitute for the XD 100. The synthetic marine 2 stroke oil Amsoil makes is only for 50:1 ratios. I dont know where you buy your bulk oil, but shop around. Acies is about $32-34/gal of XD 100 last I heard. I buy mine in bulk at POC Marine. I paid $32.50 last time I loaded up. If you buy a bunch at a time, you might try to deal with them on it, even though it’s probably a long shot.

What is XD 50?

Xd-50 is a synthetic blend of lubricating oil. The numbers have nothing to do with the mixing ratios, sorry. Click to expand… You are correct about the full synthetic and synthetic blend. The motor can burn both XD 50 and XD 100 when set at a 50:1 ratio.

What is the only marine oil out there without a generic equivalent?

I believe he was telling the truth. He stated that the only marine oil out there without a generic equivalent avilable is the xd-100. It sounds like you may be stuck, unless a mechanic can re-set the computer for the xd-50 and guarantee you that it will still protect the engine since it will then inject more oil.

What does EMM mean in oil?

The engine computer (EMM) determines the amount of oil delivered by taking into account the rpm, throttle opening, temps, exhaust back pressure, and how quickly the throttle is opening. There is no standard oil ratio, just an optional choice (most models) between the factory TC-W3 oil setting or the optional reduced-usage XD-100 setting.

Can you reprogram an XD-50?

They can reprogram the motor so it will handle XD-50. that is what I did to mine. Its a little cheaper. I would stay with the evinrude brand though.

Can you program a 250ho to a XD100?

I was told by E-tec technician that he noticed on the new 250ho that you can’t even program it to xd100. It is locked on xd50 program but recommend to use the 100 in it. That is to allow the motor to get alittle more oil for better lubrication and “life” of the motor. I don’t see it being a problem running the xd50 but have your dealer re-program it for xd50 so it gets the right amount of oil. I would program it to xd50 and run the boat and calculate how much oil you are using on xd50 and calculate it on running xd100 to see what would cost less in the long run. If it comes down to couple dollars I would run the xd100 for the simple fact it is a higher quality oil.

Can you burn XD 50 and XD 100?

You are correct about the full synthetic and synthetic blend. The motor can burn both XD 50 and XD 100 when set at a 50:1 ratio. However, the motor can be reprogrammed to 100:1 ratio and then can only burn XD 100. Hence the XD 100. This is firsthand info considering this is how I run my engine. The numbers on the XD 30 & XD 25 have nothing to do with the burn ratios.

What is Evinrude E-TEC oil?

Evinrude® E-TEC™ marine engines are unique in that they offer an alternative, lean-mix setting that allows the engine to use less oil. Whether programmed to operate at the standard mix ratio or reprogrammed to the lean-mix setting, E-TEC engines use sophisticated electronic equipment to monitor conditions, including rpm and throttle position, to determine the appropriate gas-to-oil mixture. To use the lean-mix setting, however, customers must have their engines reprogrammed by an Evinrude dealer and agree to use Evinrude XD100™ oil exclusively, often at a higher cost compared to other oils. Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP®), the manufacturer of Evinrude E-TEC engines, has not established a performance specification against which to qualify other oils.

Does undercrown oil cause preignition?

While undercrown deposits do not impede performance, heavy piston crown deposits can cause preignition and consequent poor performance. Two-cycle oils must resist heavy deposit formation on the piston crown caused by the high temperatures inside the combustion chamber. HP Marine demonstrated strong performance in the area of piston crown deposits.
